AZIO Tera 75 Mechanical Keyboard Review

AZIO Tera 75 Overview

The first thing I actually noticed when I took the Tera 75 out of the box was actually how heavy it is. At 3.5 lbs it is one of the heaviest keyboards that I’ve ever used! Typically if a keyboard is heavy it speaks to the quality and materials used. We received the Abyss version of the keyboard which features an all black design with a black casing, black aluminum top plate, black aluminum control knob, and black keycaps.

The black on the casing and aluminum top plate have a glossy finish finish, which looks great, but is definitely a fingerprint magnet. This keyboard is a 75% keyboard and we have a total of 81 keys. The 75% form factor has been becoming more and more popular lately, I for one have been using a 75% form factor keyboard for years! With a 75% keyboard you are going to get a full compliment of keys, function row, arrow keys, etc. Here we have the function row slightly separated from the rest of the keys.

As I mentioned we have black keycaps here, which really match the keyboard well. These have see-through legends as well as white alternate legends on some of the keys. Unfortunately these are ABS keycaps, it would have been nice to have PBT keycaps here. AZIO will be offering special PBY keycaps as an addon for the keyboard as well as artisan CNC aluminum keycaps.

Under these keycaps you will find your mechanical key switches. Here you have the choice of Gateron G Pro switches in Blue, Brown, Yellow, and Red. We opted for the brown switches which are a tactile switch with an actuation force of 55g, pre-travel of 2 mm, and total travel of 4mm. This is a hot-swap keyboard so you can easily swap these switches out with the included switch puller.

In the top right of the keyboard you’ll find the oversized control knob. This will control your volume and you can press it in to mute. On the Abyss version of the keyboard we have a black aluminum knob. AZIO will also be offering different color and different material knobs.

Looking at the keyboard from the side we can see that it is set at an angle. These is no height adjustment with this keyboard, but overall I feel like the angle is sufficient. On the top edge of the keyboard on the right side you’ll find a USB-C connection that you can use to charge the keyboard as well as use it in wired mode.

Flipping the keyboard over there are four large rubber feet that will keep it in place on your desk. Built into one of them is a large power button. You will need to turn the keyboard on to even use it in wired mode. The bottom of the keyboard is made made of plastic, but for sure feels solid. AZIO will be offering an aluminum case bottom as an addon.

One of the best selling points of this keyboard is that you are able to swap out the knob and top plate. The knob simply pulls off and then you can pull the top plate off the keyboard as it is only held into place with magnets. Even though the top plate is held on by magnets when it is attached it feels solid.
